Jan 4  – Cruising Time Out….It’s Back to Work! (Ft Myers, FL)

WOW….how fast time flies! After a wonderful eight months, it’s now time to take a break from cruising and go back to work. Classes start on Monday, January 9th for Barbara and David has a big renovation project in Fort Myers to finish.

We arrived in Ft Myers on Monday, November 28th and have spent the last month enjoying the new place we bought last spring while “Miss My Money” stayed tied up at the Ft Myers Yacht Basin.

We didn’t spend many nights on the boat while “Miss My Money” was tied up downtown. We had a bunch of projects going on at the new house. We had new floor coverings installed throughout the house, ripped out the old kitchen cabinets and a vanity, closed in a doorway in the kitchen area so we could add more cabinets, and did lots of cleaning and yard work.

Managed to take advantage of some of the downtown Ft Myers events, including the tribute to the Beetles concert and a couple of car shows.

Spent New Years Eve on “Miss My Money” downtown so we could attend the concerts and see the fireworks. They had five bands spread out through downtown Ft. Myers. We watched the fireworks from on top of the bridge of “Miss My Money”.

We brought “Miss My Money” from the marina out to the house a couple times during the month while we were tied up downtown. Our new place is on the main river channel of the Caloosahatchee River, so “Miss My Money” gets bounced around when she’s tied up to the dock when the big sport fishermen fly through. We hung big fenders to give her some protection and checked out tying her on different sides of the dock and the depths during low tide.

On Monday, January 2nd, we checked out of the marina for the last time and brought her to our dock.

“Miss My Money” is now tied up in front of our home, but will move later today to a neighbor’s dock on a canal right behind the house.

Enjoyed one last night out with looper friends, Kent and Jane from “Rising Tide” and Kent and Jan from “ Follow the Dream”, Tuesday January 3rd.

So this will be our last post for a while.  We traveled 5,995 miles on “Miss My Money” in the last eight months, putting 546 hours on her engines. 2016 was an awesome year!  We hope to be back on “Miss My Money” when the spring semester ends for Barbara on May 1st. Maybe 2017 will include a trip to the Bahamas. A special thanks goes out to the precious old friends that we reconnected with along our travels and to those of you that have followed along virtually. It made it that much more special knowing you were out there!

So for now we say good-bye as we end another cruising adventure….

Really enjoyed the trip with you …..even checked out one of your reccomendations on a restuarant Big Bob’s BBQ! Enjoy your time in Ft Myers, maybe we’ll meet up downtown at sometime in the future. Thanks for all the beautiful sites we would have never seen, being land lovers.

Congratulations David and Barbara. Wish we could have spent more time with you on the loop but due to unfortunate and unseen under water hazards you left us behind and trying to catch up. Barbara don’t work too hard this semester, hopefully we will catch up when Livin’ the Dream gets on the loop again and gets to southwest Florida. Happy New Year!

Switching coasts? Or keeping the Jacksonville home?

Not getting to FL this year. Bob has had 9 months of medical issues. Two surgeries in one week in December and a broken talus bone for 9 months. Sure missing FL with -25 temp with wind chill. Congrats on your great travel. Enjoy all.
